A slow drain is easy to ignore — until it stops draining entirely or backs up into the sink, tub, or floor. Dependable Plumbing Company clears clogged and slow drains throughout Burleson and south DFW. We handle kitchen drains, bathroom sink and tub drains, toilet stoppages, floor drains, laundry drains, and main line blockages. Most drain calls are resolved on the same visit.
We also diagnose why a drain keeps clogging — because a drain that backs up repeatedly isn’t just an inconvenience, it’s telling you something about the condition of the line underneath.

Kitchen drains accumulate grease, cooking oil, soap residue, and food particles over time. Grease in particular is deceptive — it flows freely as a liquid when hot but solidifies on the inside of drain lines as it cools, gradually narrowing the pipe until flow restricts completely. A kitchen drain that is slow but not fully stopped usually has a grease accumulation issue in the line. One that stops completely often has a more substantial blockage that needs mechanical clearing.
We clear kitchen drain clogs and also address the P-trap connection under the sink if grease has solidified there — which is the most common location for a kitchen drain stoppage.
Bathroom sink drains clog primarily from hair and soap buildup accumulating around the drain stopper mechanism and in the P-trap below. This is one of the most common and most straightforward drain calls we get — the clog is almost always within the first few feet of the drain opening and clears quickly. If your bathroom sink has been draining slowly for a while, the stopper assembly may also need cleaning or the pop-up linkage may need adjustment.
Tub and shower drains clog from hair and soap accumulation in the strainer basket and drain body. If clearing the strainer doesn’t restore flow, the blockage is further down the line. We clear tub and shower drain stoppages and can also address slow drainage caused by a partially collapsed or deteriorated drain body in older homes where the original drain hardware has been in place for decades.
Toilet stoppages are caused by one of two things — too much material being flushed at once, or a foreign object in the trap or drain. Paper towels, wipes labeled as “flushable,” feminine products, and children’s toys are the most common non-waste objects we retrieve from toilet traps. A plunger resolves many toilet stoppages — see the DIY section below for how to use one correctly. If a plunger doesn’t clear it, call us — forcing a partially cleared toilet stoppage can push the obstruction further into the line where it’s harder to retrieve.
When multiple drains in your home are slow or backing up simultaneously — kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry all at once — the blockage is in the main sewer line rather than in an individual fixture’s drain. Main line blockages are more serious than single-fixture clogs and require clearing the obstruction from the main line rather than treating each fixture separately.
Main line blockages in south DFW are commonly caused by grease accumulation over many years, tree root intrusion into older clay or cast iron sewer lines, or in older homes, deteriorating drain lines that have developed sags or partial collapses where debris accumulates. We clear main line stoppages and can advise on what the underlying condition of the line tells us about its long-term outlook.
Floor drains in utility rooms, garages, and older basements are frequently neglected until they’re needed — and then discovered to be completely blocked. Floor drain stoppages are typically caused by debris accumulation in the trap or sediment buildup in the line. We clear floor drain blockages and restore the trap seal if the drain has been dry long enough for the water seal to evaporate — a dry trap is also a source of sewer gas odor in utility spaces.
Washing machine drain lines back up from lint accumulation and soap residue building up in the standpipe or the drain line. A washing machine that drains slowly or overflows the standpipe during the drain cycle has a restriction in the drain line that needs clearing. We handle laundry drain stoppages as part of our standard drain service.
A drain that clears and then becomes slow or stopped again within a few weeks or months is a pattern worth paying attention to. Recurring drain problems usually point to one of three underlying issues:
When we clear a drain that has a history of recurring blockages, we’ll tell you honestly what we observe and whether the pattern suggests an underlying condition worth addressing.
Before calling about a slow bathroom sink or tub drain, pull out or unscrew the drain stopper and clean it. Hair and soap accumulate on the stopper itself and the drain body just below it — removing this buildup frequently restores normal drainage without any tools. For tubs, the overflow plate covers a linkage connected to the drain stopper — this can sometimes be pulled out from the overflow opening for cleaning as well.
If cleaning the stopper doesn’t restore normal drainage, the blockage is further in the line and needs mechanical clearing.
Store-bought chemical drain cleaners are a common first response to a slow drain, but they have real drawbacks worth knowing about:
For recurring slow drains, mechanical clearing is more effective and less damaging than repeated chemical treatments.
Most single-fixture drain clogs — kitchen, bathroom sink, tub — are cleared in 30 to 60 minutes. Main line blockages take longer depending on the location and nature of the obstruction, typically one to two hours. We’ll give you a realistic estimate when you describe the situation.
Multiple slow or stopped drains simultaneously almost always points to a main sewer line blockage rather than individual fixture clogs. This is a more urgent situation than a single slow drain — continued use of fixtures backs sewage up further in the system. Call us and we’ll clear the main line.
A drain that clogs repeatedly in a short period usually has an underlying issue — grease coating on the pipe walls, root intrusion in an older line, or a damaged section of drain pipe where debris consistently accumulates. We’ll assess the situation and tell you honestly what the pattern suggests.
Yes. If all your fixtures are draining slowly or backing up simultaneously, call us. We clear main line blockages and can advise on what the condition of the line suggests about whether it’s a recurring maintenance issue or something that needs a more permanent fix.
Yes — this is one of the most common causes of recurring main line blockages in older south DFW homes. Tree roots grow toward moisture and enter sewer lines through small cracks, joint separations, or deteriorated connections in older clay and cast iron lines. Once inside, they grow into a mass that catches tissue and debris. If your main line has been cleared multiple times and keeps blocking, root intrusion is likely if you have mature trees on the property.
Whether it’s a kitchen sink that won’t drain, a tub that’s backed up, or multiple fixtures slow at once — give us a call. Most drain calls are same-day and resolved on the first visit.

Sometimes when you think you have clogged drains, it may just be a toilet stoppage and our plumbers or the homeowner can use a plunger to unstop it.
If a plunger does not completely work, you might have an object stopping the water flow through the pipes. You can do it yourself by following this simple procedure. #1 you turn off the water to the toilet to stop it from overflowing. #2 if the water has seeped out of the toilet carefully add more water to the toilet bowl. #3 we do not recommend you use chemicals, they usually wont clear a toilet stoppage. Place the plunger into the clogged toilet and cover the drain hole. #4 you push the plunger down to create suction, and then sharply pull the plunger up, but not enough to break the suction. Do this a few times.
If you try the above steps a few times without success it may be time to contact a licensed plumber.
There are small holes in the rim of the toilet bowl which allow water to enter when the toilet is flushed. Sometimes you might think you have clogged drains when a toilet is not flushing well, (Only when not completely clogged), our plumbers can fix this by cleaning out the holes the water comes down into the bowl thru. The best tool for cleaning out these holes is a small screw. Mineral deposits from the water build up in these holes, slowing down the flow of water, or worse causing the water to NOT flow out in a circular motion. The circular flow of the water is what helps the toilet to flush completely. As you rod out these holes under the rim where the seat sits, flush the toilet a couple of times to help wash out the minerals you break loose.
If you try the above steps a few times without success, it may be time to contact a licensed plumber.
