Hot Floor in Burleson Was a Slab Leak, Not a Water Heater

June 1, 2026 — Burleson, TX — Updated September 9, 2026

A warm patch on the floor and a water heater that never seems to shut off are two of the most common reasons Burleson homeowners call us about a slab leak — and two of the most common reasons they blame the water heater first. Below are two Burleson jobs where the heat was coming from under the slab, and where the fix left the foundation untouched.

September 3, 2026 — A Hot Water Line Rerouted Overhead

Don and Brad repaired a hot water slab leak at a Burleson home by rerouting the affected line overhead rather than breaking into the concrete. New pipe was run through the wall and ceiling space to bypass the failed section under the slab entirely, which keeps the foundation intact and avoids chasing a line that can fail again somewhere else along its run.

The new hot water line was insulated where it passes through the wall cavity before the connections were made up. That step matters more than it looks. An uninsulated hot line inside a wall or attic sheds heat on the way to the fixture and sits exposed to whatever the temperature does up there. A few dollars of pipe insulation at the time of the reroute is a great deal cheaper than opening the wall again later.

Why a Hot Floor Often Points to a Slab Leak

In homes built on a concrete slab, the hot and cold water lines frequently run through or beneath that slab. When the hot water line springs a leak, the escaping water warms the concrete above it. That is why a hot floor is one of the more reliable indicators of a hot-side slab leak. Common warning signs include:

  • A warm or hot spot on the floor with no obvious source
  • A water heater that runs constantly or cycles more than usual
  • An unexplained jump in the water bill
  • The sound of running water when no fixtures are on
  • Low hot water pressure throughout the home

Pinpointing the exact location takes specialized equipment. Our slab leak detection process locates the leak precisely before any concrete is touched — which is exactly why other plumbers call us when they cannot find one.

June 1, 2026 — The Leak Was Inside a Foundation Beam

Earlier in the summer, a Burleson homeowner called us certain their water heater was on its way out. The floor in one part of the house felt warm underfoot and the heater seemed to run almost constantly, working overtime to keep up. The symptoms were real, but the diagnosis was off.

After ruling out the water heater itself, we traced the heat to a leaking hot water line running right through a foundation beam. That is a tricky spot. Cutting into a structural beam to patch a pipe is not an option, so a standard in-place repair was off the table. We rerouted the hot water line overhead instead, bypassing the leak entirely. The homeowner’s hot water and floor temperature were back to normal the same day.

Repair in Place, or Reroute Overhead?

Once a hot water slab leak is located, there are two honest ways to fix it, and the right answer depends on the pipe and the house:

  • Break the slab and repair in place — the better choice when the pipe is otherwise sound and the failure is one localized spot
  • Abandon the under-slab line and reroute — the better choice when the line runs somewhere it cannot be reached, or when the pipe is corroded enough that fixing one spot only buys a few months

Both Burleson jobs above landed on the reroute for different reasons: one because the line sat inside a structural beam, the other because running new pipe overhead was the cleaner long-term answer. More on how we approach both on our slab leak repair page.

Don’t Brush Off a Warm Floor

A hot spot on the floor is easy to ignore until the water bill climbs or the foundation starts to suffer. Slab leaks rarely fix themselves, and the longer they run, the more damage they cause. If something feels off, it is worth a professional look before it becomes a bigger problem.

We have used Dependable Plumbing for years and have ALWAYS had over and above service. This last time was no exception, we called late one evening and they offered to come out then, we put them off until the next day, in less than 2 hours they had completed a laundry list of issues from a washing machine drain that was not draining properly to flushing and repairing our hot water heater. They were courteous, clean and punctual. HIGHLY RECOMMEND them for any of your plumbing needs.

We requested to.have two outside faucets replaced that were constantly leaking. They were able to replace the faucets without having to tear out any of the drywall, so we were extremely thankful. As their name indicates, they’ve been a very dependable contractor for us over the years…..

These guys are the real deal! They came out the same day I called and replace our home water heater. The older gentleman was total sweetheart and even fixed up a toilet that won't stop flushing. This an honest business, great pricing, and hard honest work. I also love that he is local and had been in business for over 30 years!
