Clogged Kitchen Sink Cleared in Burleson, TX

Near Shelby Dr, Burleson, TX 76028

May 15, 2026 — Burleson, TX

A homeowner in Burleson called Dependable Plumbing about a kitchen sink that wouldn’t drain. Water was holding in the basin and standing in the disposal side — the usual signs of a blockage somewhere down the branch line. Don rolled out the same day and had the sink running clean before lunch.

What Was Going On

Kitchen sink stoppages are one of the most common drain calls we run in South DFW, and most of them follow a familiar pattern. The line constricts gradually until one day a full sink of dishwater just sits there. By that point the blockage is usually well past the trap — sometimes deep enough into the branch line that no amount of plunging will move it.

On this call, the standing water was slowly seeping past the obstruction, which told us the line was constricted but not fully sealed. That’s a good sign — it usually points to built-up grease, food, and soap residue rather than a hard foreign object lodged in the pipe.

How Don Cleared the Line

We pulled out our drain auger (sometimes called a drain snake) and ran it down the kitchen branch line. The auger breaks through the kind of grease and food buildup that accumulates inside kitchen drains over months and years of use. A few minutes of working the line, and the standing water in the sink finally drained the way it should.

  • Diagnosed the stoppage as a branch-line clog past the trap
  • Ran a drain auger through the kitchen line to break up the buildup
  • Tested the sink with hot water to confirm full, clean drainage
  • Checked the trap and disposal for any related issues before closing out

Once the line was clear, we ran the faucet wide open for a couple of minutes to make sure water was moving through at full speed with no slow gurgle or backup. That’s the test — a properly cleared kitchen line should swallow a full sink of water without hesitation.

Why Kitchen Sinks Clog So Often

Kitchen drains take more abuse than any other line in a typical house. Even with a disposal, a lot of what goes down isn’t supposed to:

  • Grease and cooking oil — goes down hot and liquid, cools and solidifies inside the pipe, then catches everything that comes after it
  • Coffee grounds — they don’t break down and they pack tight against pipe walls
  • Starchy food waste — rice, pasta, and potato peels swell with water and turn pasty
  • Soap scum and food residue — builds up gradually on the inside of horizontal pipe runs

If you’ve had to plunge your kitchen sink more than once in the last few months, or the water drains noticeably slower than it used to, the line is probably ready for a professional clearing before it backs up entirely. A drain auger reaches buildup that a plunger never will, and a proper clearing typically buys you years of trouble-free drainage.
