Kitchen Sink Installation

Kitchen sink replacement is more involved than it looks — especially when changing sink styles or upgrading as part of a countertop replacement. Here’s what we handle on the plumbing side:

Top-Mount (Drop-In) Sink Installation

Top-mount sinks drop into a cutout in the countertop with the rim sitting on top of the counter surface. They’re compatible with most countertop materials and are the most straightforward type to install and replace. When replacing a top-mount sink, the existing cutout usually fits the new sink if you’re staying with a similar size — though we confirm dimensions before installation. We connect the drain, garbage disposal if present, and supply lines, and verify everything is sealed and functioning before we leave.

Undermount Sink Installation

Undermount sinks mount below the countertop surface, with the counter edge visible around the sink opening. They’re popular for stone and quartz countertops. For undermount installations, we recommend having your countertop contractor install and mount the sink as part of the countertop project — they cut the opening, set the sink, and warranty that installation. We then come in to hook up the drain, supply lines, garbage disposal connection, and all the plumbing hardware underneath. This approach protects you — if there’s ever an issue with how the sink is mounted, it falls under the countertop contractor’s warranty rather than being a gray area between two trades.

Farmhouse (Apron-Front) Sink Installation

Farmhouse sinks require cabinet modifications to accommodate the apron front — the existing base cabinet typically needs the face frame and front panel cut or removed. Cabinet modification is a carpentry job separate from the plumbing work. We handle the plumbing connections once the cabinet is prepared and the sink is in position. If you need a recommendation for a cabinet contractor to prepare the opening, we’re happy to help.

What We Check During Every Sink Installation

Any time we install a kitchen sink, we inspect and address the following as part of the job:

  • Shut-off valves — We check the condition of the hot and cold angle stops under the sink. Original valves in older Burleson homes are frequently corroded. If they won’t operate safely, we replace them while the sink is out — it’s far easier to do at installation time than separately later.
  • Supply lines — We install new braided supply lines with every sink install. Original supply lines that are more than 10 years old are past their recommended replacement interval.
  • Drain basket seal — We seat the drain basket with fresh plumber’s putty and ensure the locknut is properly tightened. An improperly sealed drain basket is one of the most common sources of under-sink leaks after a DIY or rushed installation.
  • P-trap and drain connection — We make sure the P-trap is properly sloped to the drain stub-out in the wall and all slip joint connections are tight and correctly fitted.
  • Garbage disposal connection — If the sink has a garbage disposal, we connect the disposal drain to the new sink basket and verify the disposal mounting flange is properly seated and sealed.

Kitchen Faucet Installation

We install kitchen faucets of all styles — single-handle, two-handle, pull-down, pull-out, and commercial-style. If you’ve already purchased a faucet and need it installed, we handle the hookup. If you need a recommendation on which faucet to buy, we’re happy to give you guidance — some brands are significantly easier to repair and find parts for than others, which matters for long-term ownership.

Moen and Delta are the brands we see most often and are generally the easiest to service for years after installation — both have excellent parts availability and straightforward cartridge replacement when repairs are eventually needed. We install any brand the homeowner chooses, but we’ll tell you honestly if a particular faucet has a reputation for being difficult to service.

Kitchen Sink Repairs

Leaking Drain or P-Trap

Leaks under the kitchen sink at the drain basket, P-trap, or drain connections are common and usually fixed in a single visit. See our Under Sink Repairs page for a full breakdown of what causes these leaks and how we fix them.

Slow or Clogged Kitchen Drain

Kitchen drain clogs are most commonly caused by grease accumulation in the P-trap and the drain line. We clear kitchen drain blockages as part of our standard service. For recurring kitchen drain clogs, see our Drains page for information on what causes drains to keep coming back and what the options are.

Leaking Kitchen Faucet

A dripping kitchen faucet or one that leaks around the base or handles needs cartridge or seat replacement. See our Faucets page for details on kitchen faucet repair.

Frequently Asked Questions — Kitchen Sink Installation

I bought a new sink — can you just install it?

Yes. Call us with the sink brand and model and tell us what type of installation it requires — top-mount, undermount, or farmhouse. We’ll discuss what’s involved for your specific countertop and cabinet situation and give you pricing before scheduling.

Do I need a new faucet when I replace my sink?

Not necessarily. If your existing faucet is in good condition and the mounting hole configuration matches the new sink, it can often be reinstalled. We’ll let you know when we assess the project. If the faucet is older or you’re upgrading the sink as part of a kitchen refresh, many homeowners choose to replace the faucet at the same time since the connections are already being disconnected.

Do you handle the countertop cutout for an undermount sink?

For undermount sinks, we recommend having your countertop contractor handle the sink mounting as part of their countertop installation — they cut the opening, set the sink, and warranty that work. We then come in to connect the drain, supply lines, and any disposal hookup underneath. This protects you by keeping the sink mounting warranty clearly with the countertop contractor. Call us and we’ll walk you through how to sequence the project.

My kitchen sink has a garbage disposal — does that complicate the install?

It adds a step but it’s straightforward. We connect the disposal to the new sink’s drain basket during installation and verify the mounting flange is properly sealed. If the disposal itself is old and you’re thinking about replacing it at the same time, we can handle that too — it’s easier to do when the sink is already out.

How long does a kitchen sink replacement take?

A standard top-mount sink swap with faucet hookup typically takes two to three hours. Undermount and farmhouse installations take longer depending on the situation. We’ll give you a time estimate when we discuss the specifics of your project.

Called for a slab leak repair on a Monday and Don & Brad came out on Tuesday morning. They quickly went to work locating the leak which was not easy. They jack hammered the concrete, fixed the leak and pored the concrete in to dry. They were very conscious of protecting my surroundings and cleaned everything up after finishing. They were pleasant, friendly and easy to work with. Their price was fair and reasonable and exactly what I was quoted. I would not hesitate to call Don or Brad at Dependable Plumbing for any plumbing needs. Thank you
